There are many internet writers who recount their stay in a treehouse hotel by focusing on all the childhood memories it brought back. I understand the sentiment, but I think tying these treehouse hotels to childhood experience is—well—a bit childish (and a pretty cliche lead-in).
After all, when it comes to treehouse hotels, people want a retreat embedded in the heart of nature, where they can disconnect from the phone and reconnect with the people and world around them. Do you really think they want to think back to a time when parents told them when to go to bed, when the opposite sex had cooties, and drinking lots of soda was considered cool?
These are highly creative and expertly engineered treehouse hotels that have been infused with the spirit and character of their owners, builders, and guests. We do these individuals a disservice if we don’t look at their treehouse hotel for the grown-up, yet still incredibly fun, and impressive destination it is.
You might absolutely feel free and uninhibited staying in a treehouse hotel, but I can guarantee you one thing: you won’t feel like a kid. At least, you won’t feel that way staying in any of the nine treehouse hotels on our list.
These treehouse hotels are redefining the narrative on what an above-the-ground and off-the-beaten path experience should feel like. So, if you’re ready to get lifted, join us from remote mountain escapes in North Carolina all the way to the sandy beaches of Tulum.
1. TreeHouse Point
In 2004, husband and wife duo Pete and Judy Nelson purchased four acres of land in the Snoqualmie Valley (Washington State) to bring their lifelong dream of a bed and breakfast to life. However, they wanted to aim higher than a quaint cottage, literally, but building treehouses.
Today, TreeHouse Point offers six treehouses you can choose from (with a seventh currently in-the-words), each handcrafted by Pete to fit a different design niche and aesthetic. You can stay in Bonbibi:
Burl:
Nest:
Temple of the Blue Moon:
Trillium:

2. The Woods Maine
We’re bringing back one of our favorite northeast hotels that just so happens to be one of our favorite treehouse destinations as well: The Woods Maine. It’s a high-end home tucked into a lush, forested canopy in Norway, Maine, and it’s a must-visit destination if you’re looking for a perfect perch to breathe in the fresh mountain air.
Inside, you get two bedrooms, two bathrooms, bright barn wood, a full kitchen, a cozy eating nook, elegant fixtures, and huge windows with epic views. Every detail has been thoughtfully curated to give you an unforgettable, truly elevated, treehouse experience. You might have a really hard time coming back down from this one.
3. Primland Resort Treehouses
Primland Resort was founded to be a “place of immense beauty” that provides you with a “return to simple human pleasures in an environment of refined authenticity and sensuality.” If that doesn’t sound like one of the sexiest descriptions for a lifestyle hotel, I don’t know what is.
The best part? You get to spend your days experiencing grand vistas of the Kibler Valley and North Carolina piedmont in one of three luxurious treehouses. Each is only a short drive from the main main Primland Lodge and comes with a private deck to drink in the scenery. The first is Barn Owl:
Then, Cooper’s Hawk:
And, finally, Golden Eagle:
4. The Secluded Intown Treehouse
If you’re looking for an open-air treehouse experience, and one of Airbnb’s highest rated treehouse properties, head on down to Georgia for a stay at The Secluded Intown Treehouse. Here, you’ll get a true taste of Southern hospitality with a gracious, calming, and intimate retreat.
This treehouse consists of three separate areas, each framed by mind, body, and spirit and connected by rope-bridges. Mind is the sitting room where you can relax, read, or enjoy the woods from a cozy balcony. Body is where you’ll sleep and rest each night. Spirit, otherwise known as the hammock deck, surrounds the 165-year old Southern Short-Leaf Pine.
5. The Luxurious Secluded Romantic Treehouse
Journey to the mountains of Western North Carolina and take a short walk down a well-lit path to discover this oasis in the middle of the woods. You’ll be greeted by a swinging, wooden rope bridge that brings you to the base of the treehouse and starts you on a journey of pure relaxation.
Inside a fresh design aesthetic rules all, complete with Wifi and an LED fireplace, which might make you forget you’re lofted in a treehouse. That is, until you head to the outdoor hot tub for an evening soak. It’s the perfect balance of nature to luxury, indoor to outdoor.
6. Hotel Nomade Tulum
Everyone knows Tulum has some of the best beaches in all of Mexico, seeing as it’s situated on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. But did you know they also have stunning, tropical-inspired treehouses you can visit, like the one at Hotel Nomade Tulum?
The Treehouse Suite is one of a few different rooms you can choose from here, but it’s the only one that will take you off the ground and drop you in the arms of a palm tree. In addition to the dream-like setting among Tulum’s soaring blue sky, you’ll get a huge king bed, ensuite bathroom, and fresh air conditioning.
7. Mamasan Tulum
At Mamasan Tulum, the environment is their top priority next to providing you with an unforgettable treehouse experience. That’s why they’ve dedicated their operations to both understand and respect the land on which they developed the properties. They didn’t want to damage the land, only showcase it’s beauty.
In total, they have three treehouse options to choose from, all built to afford 360-degree views of the surrounding nature. Aside from the normal (not to diminish it at all, because it’s epic) treehouse room, you can also choose a geodesic treehouse or lock down the coveted bamboo suite.
8. Post Ranch Inn
Big Sur, California is one of the most decadent destinations on the entire West Coast, maybe even be one of the best in America. Post Ranch Inn sits 1,200 feet above the Pacific Ocean on the edge of a massive cliff, which makes it a prime destination for anyone who wants to experience the grandeur of the area.
If you’re looking to take your experience even further, the property offers free standing treehouses that sit nine-feet off the ground on stilts. Each is built in a triangular shape, has a kind bed, an expansive window seat, fireplace, and skylight to watch the stars from bed at night. There’s no better way to do Big Sur.
9. Montana Treehouse Retreat
Montana has some of the best outdoor experiences around, so it’s no surprise they also deliver where treehouses are concerned. The Montana Treehouse Retreat is built to be your gateway to Glacier National Park, Flathead Valley, Whitefish Mountain Resort, and the surrounding areas.
It sits in a small forest clearing, built around a few mighty trees that support the treehouse’s spiral staircase and two floors. Inside is a full kitchen, window view lounges, a bathroom, and plenty of room to stretch out and relax. Every inch of the property is designed with locally sourced materials and reclaimed materials, which give it an authentic, rustic Montana vibe.
