Austin, Texas, continues to be a trendy hotspot for tourists; visitors arrive from all over to visit the state capital. Austin is most known for its live music scene, delicious food, and vibrant nightlife. Austin is home to various bars, clubs, and concert venues; the nightlife is always lively. At night Austin is overflowing with visitors and locals enjoying live music and cocktails while barhopping around historic Rainey Street or infamous Sixth Street. It is no wonder why Austin is turning into one of the most attractive destinations for Bachelor and Bachelorette parties. Austin also offers countless outdoor activities to enjoy during the day, including numerous water activities at various lakes, and hiking or biking at Austin’s parks and nature trails, and excellent shopping and restaurants across downtown.
So, where should you stay when visiting ATX? As a Luxpitality employee who has lived in the city for over 23 years and has continued to explore the fantastic Boutique Hotels in Austin over the last two weeks, I have developed a list of some of Austin’s most fabulous and popular hotels.
The Line Austin
The Line Austin is a trendy hotel located on the edge of Town Lake and Downtown, and is a popular spot for visitors and locals. As an Austinite, this is one of the hotels I am very familiar with; locals enjoy hitting up this hotel’s rooftop bar for happy hour and sipping cocktails while looking out at Lady Bird Lake. The Line Austin is located on South Congress; the spot-on location if you are looking to explore Austin. The hotel is nearby plenty of fantastic nightlife, and it is about 0.9 miles from Rainey Street and 0.7 miles from Sixth Street.
Thought out Design
This casual yet trendy hotel’s design is inspired by Austin’s abundant nature and creative energy. Everything from the ceilings to the exposed concrete pillars is textured and will remind you of natural rock. The interior design is stunning; the walls are strung with hanging plants, artwork, and photography from resident artists. The hotel has incorporated over 500 original works of art fashioned by Texas Artists in the guest rooms and hotel lobby. The furniture’s colors and patterns add pop to the natural stone, sand, and nature-inspired walls and ceilings. The designers made sure that you are certain to get a feel for what Austin is all about when you stay here.
Plenty of Dining Options
The Line Austin is home to many popular dining spots, a popular one for locals and tourists is P6. P6 is the Line’s open-air rooftop bar and lounge that serves up delicious Mediterranean small plates and cocktails.; people visit P6 to eat, drink, and enjoy up-close views of Lady Bird Lake and the Austin Skyline. An additional favorite in the hotel is Arlo Grey; the renowned Top Chef 10 winner Kristen Kish creates a delicious and trendy restaurant experience. If you are looking for more casual dining, check out the well-known Los Angeles coffeehouse Alfred, located inside the hotel’s lobby. I recommend checking out Alfred’s signature matcha menu or grabbing a coffee or tea, and relaxing or working in the Line’s spacious lobby. And finally, this boutique hotel is home to one of Austin’s favorite taco spots, Tacos from Veracruz All Natural. The taco site is designed to enjoy your taco at the patio or take it to go by the lake; either way, it is delicious and a popular lunch spot for locals.
Austin Proper Hotel & Residences
The Austin Proper Hotel & Residences is Austin’s newest luxury lifestyle hotel located in Downtown Austin’s Second Street District. The hotel’s location is ideal if you are looking to explore the city; it is steps to the scenic Lady Bird Lake, legendary music venues, and popular Boutiques.
When designing this hotel, they pulled out all the stops; as they like to say, anything less just wouldn’t be proper. The notable interior was designed by Interior Designer Kelly Wearstler, who Artisans and local craft inspired. The Austin Proper also offers many amenities. If you visit this hotel, you won’t run out of things to do; the hotel offers restaurants for any mood, a spacious 2,000 square foot gym, a world-class spa, and a spacious pool deck and bars offering small-batch tequilas and a scenic view of the lake.
Numerous Restaurants
I highly recommend you visit one of the Proper’s outstanding hotel restaurants. I felt like I was someone in the Mediterranean when I stepped into the Proper’s ground-floor restaurant, The Peacock. This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and is inspired by Mediterranean cuisine that is perfect for sharing. If you are in the mood for a margarita or some ceviche, then you should check out the Austin Proper’s La Pascina located on the fifth. La Piscina offers great Austin views and serves up some delicious Texas-inspired Mexican cuisine. Austin proper also has a sunny sidewalk café called the Mockingbird, where guests can enjoy fresh pastries, coffee, and Greek frozen yogurt. Whatever food you are in the mood for, Austin Proper has you covered.
Recent Awards & Accolades
I am quickly becoming a regular at this hotel as it is one of my favorite spots to get drinks and have a birthday or celebratory dinner. But don’t just take my word for how impressive this hotel is. Austin Proper has already received many Accolades: Austin Proper was named “Best New Hotels to Book Around the World in 2020” by Travel and Leisure, were mentioned in the “2020 Vision: 20 New Hotels for the New Year” by Forbes and were on the Conde Nast Travelers’ 2020 Hot List, “Best New Hotels in America, and Canada” and received the 2020 Reader’s choice award by Conde’ Nast Traveler for “Top 20 Hotels in Texas.”
Hotel San José
Hotel San Jose, located in South Congress, one of Austin’s favorite neighborhoods, is the spot-on place to stay if you wish to be close to live music, shopping boutiques, and delicious restaurants. San Jose is truly unique and one of a kind; it was built in 1936 as a motor court, and in 2000 Bunkhouse converted the property into a private urban bungalow-style hotel with charming garden courtyards.
South Congress Gathering Spot
Another thing that makes Hotel San Jose unique is that it has become a hub for community and group events; Hotel San José introduces Summer events that draw in many guests and locals. If you yearn for some Summertime entertainment, then stop by Hotel San José’s Tropical Tuesday to sip some Pina Coladas while enjoying the surf band Avocados. If you appreciate a sound throwback track, then a Summer event you don’t want to miss out on is Hotel San José’s Way Back Whens-Day. Attend the event and drink frosé while listening to one of Breakaway Records’ DJs as they deliver some soul and funk.
Hotel Magdalena
If you desire to submerge yourself in Austin’s vibrant culture fully, visit Bunkhouse’s newest boutique hotel in ATX, Hotel Magdalena. The unique hotel is located on Music Lane in the popular neighborhood of South Congress and overlooks the Capital and Downtown. This profound hotel design pays tribute to the early 1970s local lake house essence in Austin. The scenic courtyards and elevated walkways produce a treehouse feeling for guests. And the varying elevations paying tribute to the slopes of Barton Springs and the native Texas plant species located around the grounds help portray the natural beauty of Texas.
Summer House on Music Lane
Summer House on Music Lane is Magdalena’s full-service restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner for guests and locals. The food and beverages are inspired by the casual sophistication of a lake house weekend. I advise you to stop by for their weekday happy hours or a weekend brunch with a garden view; I recommend their homemade butter pecan ice cream; it is perfect for a sunny afternoon happy hour with colleagues and friends! Magdalena offers many more amenities to guests, including a sunken swimming pool, pool bar, culture and wellness programs, complimentary yoga and bicycle rentals, and a curated boutique.
